demographic changes social protection

The age structure of the Slovenian population has been changing. Society is becoming long-lived. Demographic change requires existing systems and arrangements to be adapted. Economic policy and society need to create possibilities and opportunities for quality living for all generations, and for dignified ageing. From the point of view of the long-term fiscal sustainability, adjustments in the systems of social protection are of the utmost importance. Unless policies and systems change, population ageing will create significant pressure in the provision of stable financing of these systems. These challenges are comprehensively addressed in the Active Ageing Strategy, adopted by the Government of Slovenia in July 2017. It includes the guidelines for the independent, healthy and safe living for all generations, which also includes the necessary adjustments in the systems of social protection to create conditions in which all generations can live independent, safe and healthy lives
